Tasks and Duties

Task Objective: Develop a comprehensive visual research report and create a detailed storyboard that conceptualizes a short narrative. This task focuses on translating concepts into visual sequences, ensuring clear storytelling through illustration. You will dive into traditional and digital visual storytelling elements, gather inspiration from public sources, and organize your ideas into a coherent storyboard format.

Expected Deliverables: A single PDF file that includes a research summary, mood boards, and a complete storyboard with at least 8 panels. Each panel should include sketches or digital drafts that tell a sequential story.

Key Steps: (1) Conduct research on effective storytelling techniques in illustrations using publicly available resources; (2) Create a mood board containing at least 10 images that inspire your narrative; (3) Develop a narrative concept that is both engaging and visually driven; (4) Draw and digitize your storyboard panels, ensuring a clear flow of ideas across panels; (5) Compile all elements into a final PDF file. Use digital tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or any relevant software to create clean visuals; (6) Annotate each panel with brief descriptions of the scene and action.

Evaluation Criteria: Your submission will be assessed on the clarity of the narrative, creativity in concept development, consistency in visual style, quality of sketches or digital illustrations, and the effective integration of research insights. The final file must be well-organized and visually appealing, demonstrating your ability to plan and visualize storytelling elements in digital illustration.

Task Objective: Focus on translating your narrative concept into a series of rough illustrations that form the foundation for future refinement. This week, your goal is to develop multiple concept sketches and initial digital drafts which detail character design, environment creation, and layout composition for a digital illustration project.

Expected Deliverables: A single file (preferably a multi-page PDF) containing a detailed concept sketch series including at least 5 key illustrations or design sketches. The file should include notes on color choice, style variations, and potential digital techniques you plan to employ.

Key Steps: (1) Review the storyboard from Week 1 and extract key frames or scenes that require refinement; (2) Create multiple rough drafts and scribbles that explore different stylistic approaches for characters and settings; (3) Experiment with various compositions in preliminary digital sketches; (4) Document your creative decisions and note any challenges encountered during the initial design process; (5) Compile the rough illustrations along with annotated design notes into a final submission file. Use digital drawing tools to produce clear sketches and ensure your work captures the intended mood and action.

Evaluation Criteria: Your work will be evaluated on the originality of your concepts, consistency in artistic style, the quality of preliminary sketches, clarity of annotations, and your ability to iterate on the ideas presented in the initial storyboard. Demonstrate your creative problem-solving skills and attention to design details through your rough illustrations.

Task Objective: Advance your illustration process by refining your rough sketches into detailed digital renderings with an emphasis on color theory and shading techniques. This task is focused on transforming conceptual sketches into polished digital artworks by applying layered digital effects, ensuring adherence to design guidelines, and experimenting with color palettes that reinforce mood and depth.

Expected Deliverables: A single layered digital file (such as a PSD or a PDF with embedded layers) featuring at least 3 fully rendered illustrations. Each illustration must exhibit careful attention to anatomy, environment details, light, and shadow effects.

Key Steps: (1) Choose 3 sketches from your previous work and prepare a workflow plan; (2) Digitally refine these sketches implementing advanced shading, line control, and texture techniques; (3) Experiment with multiple color palettes, documenting your choices and rationale behind each selection; (4) Incorporate light source analysis to add depth and dimension; (5) Finalize the digital illustrations ensuring clarity and high resolution; (6) Save all work in a file format that preserves layers for future modifications.

Evaluation Criteria: Your submission will be judged based on the quality of the digital rendering, effective use of color and shadow, consistency with your previously established style, and the demonstration of professional digital illustration techniques. Emphasis will be placed on the clarity of separation between foreground, middle-ground, and background elements, as well as the overall visual coherence of the final illustrations.

Task Objective: This week, ensure your illustrations align strictly with predefined design guidelines and artistic style standards. Your focus will be on adding intricate details, enhancing textures, and finalizing design elements that contribute to a consistent, professional look. You will learn how each fine detail contributes to overall visual quality and message delivery.

Expected Deliverables: A single high-resolution file (PDF or image format) comprising at least 3 fully polished illustrations. Each illustration should demonstrate enhanced detailing, correct anatomical proportions, and adherence to a consistent color scheme and style.

Key Steps: (1) Revisit your digitally rendered illustrations from Week 3 and identify areas for fine detailing; (2) Enhance these areas by adding textures, small details, and refining edges while strictly following provided design guidelines; (3) Validate your work against a self-made checklist that covers consistency in style, color fidelity, and overall composition; (4) Incorporate feedback or self-reflection notes regarding design improvements to guide your polishing process; (5) Integrate your enhanced illustrations into one comprehensive file with clear labels or descriptions for each piece; (6) Ensure that the final file is well-organized, showcasing your best work without compromising on detail.

Evaluation Criteria: The assessment will focus on the precision and quality of the detailing work, consistency with the specified style guidelines, the overall cohesiveness of the illustrations, and your ability to integrate subtle nuances that elevate the final presentation. The submission should reflect a deep understanding of refinement techniques and an excellent application of digital illustration skills.

Task Objective: In this task, you are required to harmonize your illustration style across different elements and simulate a collaborative design environment by adapting to a hypothetical team brief. You will be tasked to create a series of illustrations that maintain a consistent style while also allowing for creative variation based on a new design challenge. This exercise is aimed at understanding how individual contributions fit within a broader team strategy.

Expected Deliverables: A single submission file (PDF or multi-layered digital file) including 4 illustrations that represent various themes (character design, background scene, product illustration, and an abstract design) all unified by a consistent style, color palette, and technique. Each illustration must include a brief commentary on how adjustments were made to ensure consistency within a simulated collaborative setting.

Key Steps: (1) Reassess your existing style guidelines from previous weeks; (2) Review a hypothetical brief outlining a series of illustrations required for a multi-faceted project; (3) Create initial sketches for each theme, ensuring a consistent design language across your work; (4) Digitally render these styles into coherent illustrations with unanimous creative directions; (5) Write a short reflective note for each piece explaining your approach to maintaining consistency and adapting to new creative challenges; (6) Assemble all work and commentary into a consolidated file.

Evaluation Criteria: The final deliverable will be evaluated on the cohesiveness of the illustration style across different themes, the ability to adapt creatively while maintaining consistency, the quality and clarity of commentary provided, and the overall presentation of the file. This task is designed to mimic real-life collaborative projects where uniformity and adaptability are key requirements.

Task Objective: Consolidate your work into a final project presentation, integrating feedback and engaging in a thorough self-evaluation. This week, you will compile your illustrations from previous tasks into a cohesive portfolio that narrates your creative journey. Your task is to reflect on the progression of your work, evaluate your adherence to artistic guidelines, and identify growth areas. The aim is to produce a polished submission that encapsulates the entire illustration process in a professional manner.

Expected Deliverables: A single comprehensive file (PDF portfolio) that comprises a curated selection of at least 5 illustrations developed over the course of the internship. Additionally, include a written self-evaluation (at least 300 words) that outlines your creative process, challenges, successes, and areas for future improvement.

Key Steps: (1) Select and organize your best illustrations from Weeks 1 through 5 into a logical sequence; (2) Create an introduction that outlines the project’s narrative and your overall artistic evolution; (3) Write a detailed self-evaluation that covers the design process, techniques learned, and personal reflections on your performance; (4) Ensure each illustration is accompanied by short descriptive captions that explain design choices and techniques used; (5) Compile the portfolio in a professional layout using digital design software; (6) Save and submit the final project as a single high-quality PDF file.

Evaluation Criteria: The final submission will be reviewed based on the quality, coherence, and organization of the portfolio, the depth and insight of your self-evaluation, and your ability to reflect constructively on your work. Emphasis will be placed on the professional presentation, narrative flow, and comprehensive documentation of your creative journey throughout the internship.
