Tasks and Duties

Task Objective: For this week, your objective is to perform user research and develop at least three detailed user personas that will represent target users of a new digital product. You are expected to identify user needs, pain points, and behaviors through simulated research methods and then translate your findings into realistic personas.

Expected Deliverables:

  • A comprehensive document (PDF or presentation file) containing background research, methodology, and findings.
  • At least three user personas with detailed attributes such as demographics, motivations, pain points, and user behaviors.

Key Steps to Complete the Task:

  1. Begin by outlining a hypothetical digital product for which you intend to design the user interface. This product could be either a mobile application or a web platform.
  2. Conduct simulated research using publicly available resources or hypothetical survey data. Focus on gathering insights that a real market research process might yield.
  3. Analyze the research data to identify key user segments and common themes.
  4. Create detailed user personas that include visuals, brief biographies, and lists of key needs and challenges.
  5. Compile your research, analysis, and final personas into a well-structured document.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Clarity and depth of the research process.
  • Realism and diversity of the user personas.
  • Quality of documentation including layout, design, and coherence.
  • Alignment with user-centered design principles.

This task will require approximately 30-35 hours of work, encouraging you to immerse yourself deeply into user research practices and to bring theoretical knowledge into practical persona creation. Ensure your work is detailed, well-organized, and clearly connects research findings to the personas you develop.

Task Objective: Your goal this week is to design wireframes and create an interactive prototype for a hypothetical digital application. The focus is on conceptualizing the layout, user interface elements, navigation flow, and overall user experience of the application.

Expected Deliverables:

  • A wireframe document (in PDF or image format) that showcases low-fidelity layouts of key screens.
  • An interactive prototype file (via a tool such as Figma, Adobe XD, or similar) that demonstrates the basic navigation and interaction flow.

Key Steps to Complete the Task:

  1. Identify and define the scope of a digital application by selecting a target user group and outlining the key functionalities.
  2. Sketch initial ideas and generate multiple layout options for critical user screens using wireframing techniques.
  3. Choose a wireframe that best addresses user needs and supports intuitive navigation.
  4. Transfer the chosen design into a digital prototype using popular design tools.
  5. Create interactive links between screens to simulate realistic user interactions.
  6. Document your design rationale and workflow process in a brief design commentary included in your final submission.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • The clarity and usability of the wireframes.
  • The effectiveness of the interactive prototype in demonstrating key user flows.
  • Attention to detail in layout and design consistency.
  • Overall alignment with best practices in UI/UX design.

This task will demand around 30-35 hours of dedicated work and will test your ability to translate initial design ideas into practical, interactive user interfaces. Your submission must be self-contained, providing a comprehensive rationale and high-quality design artifacts.

Task Objective: This week’s task focuses on planning, executing, and analyzing a usability testing session for your prototype developed in Week 2, followed by iterative improvements. The goal is to evaluate the user interface based on usability principles and to refine designs based on feedback.

Expected Deliverables:

  • A usability test plan document outlining testing goals, participant profiles, tasks, and key metrics.
  • A feedback analysis report summarizing issues identified and proposed iterations (submit as a PDF or presentation file).

Key Steps to Complete the Task:

  1. Develop a usability test plan that defines objectives, testing scenarios, and participant criteria. Simulate the participant responses based on typical user behavior if needed.
  2. Conduct a mock usability test session. You may record your review process by simulating user interactions through self-testing or using recorded walkthroughs with self-assessment comments.
  3. Collect and analyze the feedback, highlighting usability issues, design inconsistencies, and navigation problems.
  4. Propose iterative design improvements addressing the identified issues, and update the prototype based on your recommendations.
  5. Compile a detailed report that includes your testing methodology, observed issues, detailed analysis, and final design iterations.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Thoroughness of the usability test plan and appropriateness of the test scenarios.
  • Quality and insightfulness of the feedback and analysis report.
  • Creativity and practicality of the proposed design iterations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of usability principles in the design process.

This task requires approximately 30-35 hours of work, allowing you to deeply engage with usability evaluation techniques and iterative design modifications, ensuring a user-centered design approach is at the forefront of your work.

Task Objective: For this task, you will adapt your existing design to create responsive user interfaces and ensure accessibility compliance. You are tasked with redesigning the user interface to work seamlessly across various devices and to meet basic accessibility guidelines.

Expected Deliverables:

  • A detailed design specification document (PDF or presentation file) describing how the design adapts to different device screens (mobile, tablet, desktop).
  • A set of redesigned mockups that showcase responsive layouts and incorporate accessibility features.

Key Steps to Complete the Task:

  1. Review your current design solution and identify potential challenges when adapting it to different screen sizes.
  2. Research best practices in responsive design and web accessibility standards (such as WCAG guidelines).
  3. Develop a design specification that outlines responsive breakpoints, layout adjustments, and accessibility features such as color contrast, font scalability, and navigational aids.
  4. Create mockups for different devices to demonstrate the responsive design.
  5. Document your process, design decisions, and how your design meets both responsive and accessibility criteria.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Depth and clarity of the design specification document.
  • Quality and practicality of the responsive mockups.
  • Adherence to accessibility standards and design guidelines.
  • Innovative problem-solving in adapting the design across device types.

This assignment is estimated to require 30-35 hours of work. It encourages you to think critically about how your designs adapt to diverse user environments while ensuring inclusivity and enhanced usability for all users.

Task Objective: The final task involves performing a critical evaluation of an existing digital product's UI/UX design and proposing a comprehensive redesign strategy. Your goal is to analyze current user interface components, identify pain points, and develop actionable recommendations for improving the overall user experience.

Expected Deliverables:

  • A detailed evaluation report (PDF or presentation file) which includes a critique of the existing design, user feedback analysis, and identification of key improvement areas.
  • A set of reimagined design concepts or revised mockups that address the identified issues and propose a future-proof design strategy.

Key Steps to Complete the Task:

  1. Select an existing digital product (publicly available) to evaluate. This product should be sufficiently complex to offer meaningful insights.
  2. Conduct an in-depth design analysis considering aspects such as visual hierarchy, navigation, usability, and overall user engagement.
  3. Gather synthesized findings into a comprehensive evaluation report, clearly documenting current design shortcomings and challenges.
  4. Propose detailed redesign recommendations and create revised mockups or design concepts that illustrate how the improvements can be implemented.
  5. Support your recommendations with relevant design theory and best practices in UI/UX design.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Thoroughness and depth of the design evaluation and critique.
  • Clarity and relevance of the proposed redesign recommendations.
  • Innovativeness and feasibility of the new design concepts.
  • Overall quality of the documentation and visual presentation in your deliverable.

This final assignment will take approximately 30-35 hours and serves as an opportunity to showcase your ability to assess existing digital products and apply your design thinking to create meaningful, user-centered improvements. Be meticulous in your analysis and ensure your recommendations are well-supported by UI/UX principles.
