Tasks and Duties

Task Objective

This week, your focus is on developing a comprehensive narrative concept strategy that serves as the blueprint for your creative narrative project. Your aim is to outline a well-structured plan that includes the main themes, characters, settings, and narrative arcs of your future creative writing piece. This task requires creative brainstorming combined with a methodical approach to planning, mirroring industry techniques in narrative development. It will challenge you to use critical thinking, literary analysis, and creative exploration as you devise a foundational strategy that encapsulates your artistic intentions.

Expected Deliverables

  • A DOC file that outlines the strategic narrative plan.
  • A detailed description of the narrative's themes, characters, and setting.
  • An explanation of the intended narrative arc including exposition, conflict, climax, and resolution.
  • Creative rationales and literary influences that have shaped your narrative planning.

Key Steps to Complete the Task

  1. Initiate a brainstorming session by jotting down multiple narrative ideas and themes.
  2. Select a primary theme and develop a narrative outline that highlights the sequence of events.
  3. Construct detailed character profiles with motivations and conflicts.
  4. Design the narrative environment by describing key settings and their influences on the storyline.
  5. Research publicly available literature to incorporate influential narrative styles and methods, and connect these to your project.
  6. Review your document, ensuring clarity, flow, and a captivating narrative strategy.

Evaluation Criteria

  • The DOC file should present a clear narrative plan with a logical flow and in-depth creative details.
  • Innovation in the approach of blending traditional narrative structures with original creative ideas.
  • Thoroughness in character and setting development proven by detailed profiles and descriptions.
  • Overall clarity, coherence, and presentation of the document.

This task is expected to take approximately 30 to 35 hours. Ensure that your work is compiled in a well-organized DOC file with a professional formatting style.

Task Objective

This week, you will transform your narrative strategy into a fully drafted creative narrative. The focus here is on executing your planned ideas by constructing a narrative that vividly brings characters, settings, and plot to life. Emphasis must be placed on detail, coherency, and creativity, with special attention directed toward dialogue, descriptive passages, and the flow of the storyline. You are encouraged to integrate literary techniques and elements learned in your creative writing course to elevate your narrative’s impact.

Expected Deliverables

  • A DOC file containing a comprehensive narrative draft, between 3,000 and 5,000 words.
  • An annotated structure that clearly delineates key sections of the narrative (e.g., introduction, rising action, climax, and resolution).

Key Steps to Complete the Task

  1. Review and familiarize yourself with the narrative strategy created in Week 1.
  2. Break down your narrative plan into specific segments or chapters to provide a clear road map for your draft.
  3. Begin writing your narrative draft, ensuring that the dialogue, character development, and descriptive elements work cohesively.
  4. Integrate literary techniques such as foreshadowing, symbolism, and varied narrative perspectives to enrich your storytelling.
  5. Revise the draft as you progress, ensuring that there is a logical progression of events and a smooth transition between narrative segments.
  6. Conduct self-editing sessions to eliminate any inconsistencies or narrative gaps.

Evaluation Criteria

  • The narrative draft should demonstrate originality, clarity, and strong adherence to the planned narrative structure.
  • Depth in the development of characters and elaborate scene descriptions.
  • Effectiveness in creating and sustaining narrative tension and pace.
  • Overall presentation and cohesiveness of the narrative as a polished draft.

This task is designed to require roughly 30 to 35 hours of work. Your final DOC submission should be clearly formatted and well-organized.

Task Objective

This week, your assignment is to refine and enhance the narrative draft you produced earlier. The primary goal is to critically edit and revise your creative narrative to ensure clarity, consistency, and stylistic sophistication. You should adopt a meticulous approach to restructuring parts of your narrative where necessary, improving dialogue, refining character arcs, and ensuring the pacing is engaging for the reader. You are expected to integrate reflection on the initial feedback you might have self-generated while revising the document. This process is integral for preparing a narrative that meets professional creative writing standards.

Expected Deliverables

  • A DOC file containing your revised and enhanced narrative draft.
  • A separate commentary document (which can be appended to the DOC file) that details the revisions made and the rationale behind them.

Key Steps to Complete the Task

  1. Carefully re-read your original narrative draft and make notes on areas that require improvement.
  2. Identify specific aspects such as narrative pace, character dialogues, and logical sequencing that can be enhanced.
  3. Apply critical editing techniques to rework lengthy passages, awkward transitions, and underdeveloped character moments.
  4. Document all substantive changes in an attached commentary, explaining why each revision was necessary.
  5. Ensure that the revised draft maintains the original creative vision while addressing previous shortcomings.

Evaluation Criteria

  • The revised DOC file must show clear improvements in narrative fluency and stylistic consistency.
  • The commentary should effectively justify the revisions and provide insight into your creative editing process.
  • Attention to details such as grammatical correctness, narrative flow, and reader engagement.
  • Overall coherence and readability of the revised narrative.

This task is estimated to require around 30 to 35 hours. Ensure that your final DOC submission is thoroughly edited and well-documented.

Task Objective

In the final week, you will synthesize all your creative efforts into a compelling narrative pitch coupled with a reflective analysis of your overall creative process. This task is designed to demonstrate your ability to analyze and present your work professionally while highlighting its most innovative aspects. You need to create a narrative pitch that summarizes your creative story, objectives, and target audience, along with an introspective commentary on the challenges, lessons, and creative growth achieved throughout this project.

Expected Deliverables

  • A DOC file containing a creative narrative pitch, including a concise narrative summary, marketing elements, and target audience insights.
  • A reflective analysis section that discusses your creative journey, the obstacles encountered, and how you resolved them.

Key Steps to Complete the Task

  1. Begin by drafting a concise summary of your narrative, capturing the essence of your plot, characters, and key themes.
  2. Develop a persuasive narrative pitch that can convince a hypothetical panel or publishing house of your project's viability.
  3. Include sections that detail your target audience, potential market impact, and unique selling points of your narrative.
  4. Create a reflection segment covering the creative process, major revisions, and personal growth experiences during the project.
  5. Ensure all parts of the document are cohesively structured and professionally formatted.

Evaluation Criteria

  • The pitch must be compelling, logically structured, and capture the reader's interest.
  • Your reflective analysis should be introspective, detailed, and showcase your creative evolution.
  • Clarity, accuracy, and professional formatting of the DOC file.
  • Overall integration of narrative creativity with strategic marketing and personal reflection.

This task is allocated approximately 30 to 35 hours and is critical in demonstrating your ability to consolidate individual narrative elements into one coherent, professionally presented document. Be thorough in your submission and ensure your DOC file is formatted to professional standards.
