About this Internship
This Indian Payroll internship gives you job-ready skills in processing payroll as per Indian statutory rules. You will cover CTC and salary structure design, Provident Fund (PF) and ESI, Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on salary, professional tax, gratuity and bonus, and year-end Form 16 issuance. By the end you will be able to run a compliant monthly Indian payroll and understand each statutory deduction.
Tasks and Duties
Week 1 Task: Salary Structure & CTC Breakdown
Summary
Understand CTC components — basic, HRA, allowances, and deductions.
Objective
Learn how an Indian salary/CTC is structured: basic pay, HRA, special allowances, employer contributions, and how these affect take-home salary.
Deliverable: build a sample CTC breakup for a given annual package and explain each component.
Week 2 Task: Statutory Deductions — PF, ESI & Professional Tax
Summary
Calculate Provident Fund, ESI, and professional tax correctly.
Objective
Understand and calculate Provident Fund (employee + employer 12%), ESI eligibility and rates, and state professional tax.
Deliverable: for a sample salary, compute PF, ESI and PT and show the impact on net pay.
Week 3 Task: TDS on Salary & Income Tax
Summary
Learn how TDS is computed on salary under old and new regimes.
Objective
Understand how employers deduct TDS on salary: tax slabs, old vs new regime, exemptions and declarations (investment proofs).
Deliverable: a worked TDS calculation for a sample employee for one month.
Week 4 Task: Payslips, Form 16 & Year-End Compliance
Summary
Generate payslips and understand Form 16 and annual filings.
Objective
Produce a compliant Indian payslip and learn year-end obligations: Form 16 issuance, Form 24Q returns, and gratuity/bonus rules.
Deliverable: a sample payslip plus a short note on what Form 16 contains and when it must be issued.
